The joy of these cards is the physicality and the true randomness of picking a card. With tools like online flashcards, you have to trust that the random algorithm is actually random. And there’s something grounding about pulling a physical card and flipping it over to get your answer or your dose of inspiration.
Joyful in a different way are Angel Cards. The term has become genericized, but the original Angel Cards by Kathy Tyler and Joy Drake offer gentle affirmations (Discernment, Authenticity) with cute illustrations. The suggestions are very digestible and non-woowoo (The authors talk about angels as your ‘inner guides’ and the little creatures on the cards are not going to hurt anyone). They’re also much smaller than regular playing cards.
Both decks now have online versions (the Whack Pack is an iPhone app and Angel Cards has a “pick an angel” tool). I’d cautiously recommend checking out either of these, but the charm of both of these O.G. tools is that you do not have to be online to use them.
