These words are your LinkedIn headline: the phrase that appears directly under your name.
A lot of people use this headline to position themselves as experienced, knowledgeable, and basically a good person to network with. This is especially true of job seekers.
But if I might buy something from you, I want to know how you can help me. I don’t care if you’re a senior leader or an authority or an experienced blah-blah.
Why would that turn someone off, you may ask? It might not turn someone off—but when you’ve got someone’s attention, not turning them ON is just as bad.
So if you’ve gotten fancy and used the headline for something other than your job title, give it another look! If you’re in sales, the most straightforward formula for a headline is “I help someone do something they want to do.”
For example, if you’re in car sales in Boston, “I help Bostonians buy their next great car.”
Got 5 minutes? Go fix that shizz.
