OK, now look at the top. Does the URL in the browser bar have your name, or is it your name followed by a string of numbers? Mine (yes, this is a flex) is naomistringfield. If it showed up as, I don’t know, pablo-escobar-23769920, you need to fix this.
Even if you have a super common name, you can at least make the URL a little more attractive. My son has about the most common name you can imagine (I’ve met five of him so far*), but even he managed to snag “seanmahoney-”!
OK, now that I’ve embarrassed you, here’s how to fix it. These directions assume you’re on the computer, not your phone.
- Go to your teeny little picture on the right (again, no mooning at it!) Click where it says “Me,” and then click “View Profile.”
- Click “Contact Info” and then (at the bottom of the dialog box) “Edit Contact Info.”
- Now click your profile URL—yes, that ugly thing with all the numbers. You’ll see a super confusing page open that makes it look like you can’t edit it. Nonsense. Up on the top right you’ll see a little section where you can edit your profile URL.
- If you’ve got a common name, you’ll have to get a little bit creative. Play around until LinkedIn allows you to choose one that you can live with.
- Thank me later! Seriously once upon a time Hubspot refused to even consider job applications from people who hadn’t properly branded their LinkedIn URL.
